Dear Reader:
The story begins many years ago, when my mother would have to work late nights and my father was left with two restless children to entertain. What was a man to do? So while my mother was away he would read to my brother and I, he would tell us stories of Hobbits, Wizards, and Dwarves- A Ring and The Enemy. Countless journeys we went on, many dangers were encountered.
But we survived to live and adventure another day.
This love for the books grew as I did, and I began to want to read them for myself. This led to many problems with my school's library (among other things) -claiming that I was too young- but I resorted to haggling my way out (taking the books with out checking them out). While I may have missed many lessons or over-arching ideas, I wanted in that world so bad- I didn't fit in this one.
So for years I would read and re-read the stories, garnering a bit of hope and insight here and there, using Tolkien as someone who could teach me how to be more adventurous, more pragmatic, but also continue to dream.
My dream, back in first and secondary schooling, was to get into law school. I have currently made it that far, but there are going to be many trials ahead. Those will be met with Tolkien in hand, urging me to do what I think is right, and to believe in something.
This blog will mostly be chronological, however, there may be instances when I fall back in to childhood memory or to when I was abroad. Also, these letters are to Tolkien, but not always about his work. Sometimes I may be watching another movie or show, reading something or listening, and I will feel the need to explain the lesson I have learned. But mostly, the posts will be to Tolkien, about Tolkien.
